I find myself needing to cut & shape some serious amounts of EPF (Styrofoam to you "normal" peeps) and the nichrome wire is missing from our industrial strength hotwire rig.
Anyone got any bright ideas where I can dig some up in a pretty bloody big hurry?

Wed, April 9, 2008 - 8:50 PMYou try a welding supply shop? There is a tool and die shop up your way in Redwood City that has some amazing stock or may know where to pick some up, though they are commercial, Alan Steel & Supply Co. You should check them out. Here is their number (650) 369-2526.
Good luck. -

Thu, April 10, 2008 - 12:56 PMI thought about Alan Steel & Supply late last night... thanks for the #.
Love that place.... get most of my anvils there, and they have some great materials for the DIY cannon builders of the world (A rather small bunch, I know ;) ) -

Sun, April 20, 2008 - 10:15 PMAlas, no dice.
I made do with a hot knife, a sureform tool and a lot of extra shaping and finishing work.
I steer clear of Alan Steel unless I have a project at hand, otherwise I tend to come home with piles of "possibles" that clutter up the shop until I get inspired to make something -

Sun, April 20, 2008 - 10:30 PMWell, at least you were able to work it. I couldn't think of any other shops other than welder supply stores, which I'm sure you tried.
Alan Steel is project man's best dream and worst nightmare in one...;-)
